club called Brits International is up and running. Serving ex-pats and
friends within Missouri and Kansas, this group is looking to provide an
open point of contact and support throughout the region. Founder is Ray

Wales in Washington DC June
24-28: Wales will be the
featured nation at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the
National Mall in the nation’s capital this summer.
The programme for the Festival
Wales Smithsonian Cymru will draw on the diversity of Wales’s
cultural life, represented by over 100 individual participants from
Wales. Themed areas on the Mall will include: Language and Literature;
Industry, Heritage, and Innovation; Building and Landscapes;
Ecotourism and Pastimes; Home and Community; Along the Water; Music
and Dance; and Wales in the World. Throughout the two weeks there will
also be story telling, dancing, and a wealth of other musical
performances on three outdoor stages as well as workshops and concerts
from the celebrated Welsh National Opera.
Outside the festival site, there
will be an ancillary program of events called Wales Washington Cymru.
This will include performances from internationally renowned artistes
such as contemporary harpist Catrin Finch; singer Iris Williams; and
award-winning choir Only Men Aloud! A festival of Welsh movies will be
held at the Goethe-Institute and Guy Masterson will present his unique
solo performance of Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood. Business
events will include a Zero Carbon Transition Conference at the Museum
of Natural History and a promotion of Ryder Cup Wales 2010.
June 14-19: The
